Current Reviews 2011

On this page we aim to bring you the latest and best unbiased opinions on High-End hardware peripherals.  Occasionally we will review new software releases of benchmarking software used in our configurations and the newly supplied components fresh from the companies.   These software packages utilised in our tests may be found over on the Benchmarks Used page

The plethora of benchmarks available in this arena; one could spend all day in producing results, paralysis by analysis!  What has been shown here is enough for a decision to be made for evaluation cards and equipment to be put in place for the next phase forward of the end user. If you cannot fully make out the charts and visuals which we have shown below, please e-mail – reviews at 3d professor dot org and we shall send over in priority of receipt the picture you are looking for.

All these reviews take a huge amount of time here to complete as each test is ran as many as 6 times to establish the validity of the results shown from first run under the SPEC fair play rules.   Like all new equipment we encounter bugs along the way long before you the public ever see them.   When you see the final published review sometimes we have encountered many days and weeks of painstaking reruns, bios updates to name but a few of the issues we have to overcome.   Therefore the times behind each review may seem like a considerable period between them, but there is always valid reasoning.   In some instances there are very good reasons for delays in reviews as we do work behind the scenes that is never published.

Finally, to complete all of the tests on the system(s) shown have taken some considerable time to complete. Utilising at all times were possible the latest SPEC® benchmarks; we maintain the fair play rules for each SPEC® benchmark result and to reiterate the results shown in the review have been run in accordance with the fair play rules and regulations.

With today’s Dual Processor and Single Processor Workstations they can cost significant amounts of monies.  Realistic costing’s of either processor systems can be quite significant dependant on the system build and a progressive look to the future.   With our awards that we present companies who present systems for review they must fall into the strict costing categories below.   Therefore in order to be fair and taking into account today’s market pricing structure we see the following tables below outlining were a system whether Dual or Single Processor falls.   Each system is gauged upon its current build, its forethought for future usage and finally price.

Awards presented are Editors Choice, Editors Recommendation, Highly Commended.

League Tables will be found at the start of the Benchmarks used page which is currently being updated.

These awards are also applicable to the Professional Graphic Cards we test individually in house on our own test systems and any other hardware presented for test.   Testing is very strict indeed and all Workstations and Professional Graphic cards are subjective to a range of tests from SPEC namely SPECapc and SPECgpc tests which are the industry standards we work within.  As a point of interest to readers that do not know the SPEC/GWPG Organization more details of which full companies make up the individual GPC and APC committees can be found on this hyperlink
