ATI FireGL V7200
Its been a long few months of hard work here with the advent of so many new professional workstation cards from ATI and finally the card we have all been waiting for the arrival of the ATI FireGL V7200.    We heard so much of what this card would produce sometime back and now its time to see the proof.

Strategically placed at the top of the mid range cards and yet just below the high end cards it shows on paper and the figures below a vast improvement upon its predecessor and top of the older generation FireGL card range the FireGL V7100.

This has been a clever implementation from ATI as for so long they lacked that top mid range card that grabbed so much of the market from the SI and VAR’s. What does this card have to offer the end user at this end of the scale?
Features
 Powered by ATI’s next generation FireGL™ graphics processor unit (GPU) with Avivo™ Technology
 Scalable ultra-threaded architecture with 8 Parallel Geometry Engines and 16 Pixel Shader Processors
 Full Shader Model 3.0 support for vertex and pixel shaders
 256MB GDDR3 graphics memory with 512-bit ring bus memory controller
 High Dynamic Range (HDR) rendering with 8-bit, 10-bit, and 16-bit per RGB colour component support
 High fidelity display engine capable of producing over one trillion colours
 Two Dual link outputs each capable of ultra-high resolutions up to 3840 x 2400
 Stereoscopic 3D output
 HD Component Video (YPrPb) output
 Optimized and certified for CAD and DCC applications
 Direct access to ATI’s dedicated workstation technical support team
With this complete how does it compare against its predecessor the FireGL V7100? The graph below highlights to you the main differences notably the memory bandwidth increase, 2 additional geometry engines and the considerable hike in both Vertices and Pixels per Second.
