ATI FireGL V7350

Benchmarks Continued and Conclusions

SPECapc for 3D Studio Max 7

SPEC Viewperf 8.1

Conclusions.

Articulate delivery is an understatement with the performance of all! You have to utilize the equipment to see just as we did to see the merit of everything. Overall respect must now be given back to ATI with what has been shown today.

This has been an interesting review to complete as it shows just how remarkably stable this beta driver is across all platforms. The results remaining consistent prove that they have got it right. This card has much to offer especially with the larger frame models utilising the huge amount of onboard ring bus memory it has to play with. Programmers and designers alike now finally have a choice. The noticeable main difference we all have seen is the actual render times in 3D Studio Max with the undaunting power of Paxville shaving huge amounts of time off the other systems in the test renders shown. It’s now very easy to see why certain houses and SoHo users have up taken with ease this technology as Paxville demolishes the other times shown. Certainly not the fastest unit in this arena but it catches up with the greatest of ease where it truly matters in these instances.

It’s been nearly a year now since ATI has hit the field up and running with products of this calibre, a point of note in going to press, these cards are readily available from certain Distributors now. So for the cynic’s out there who think that this is just a paper launch we are afraid to say you are wrong and that ATI have successfully got the product to market on the day of reckoning. Current SRP Price structures of the cards are ATI FireGL V7350 - £1149 (Eur 1581 and USD $1921) Ex Vat and Taxes and the ATI FireGL V7300 - £949 (Eur 1305 and USD $ 1587) Ex Vat and Taxes.

This important advancement in ATI Professional Workstation cards has shown they are quickly up taking of new technology and delivering it - most importantly on time to the ever demanding professional. Time is money now to these people and the faster the graphic card performs, the faster the final product reaches the street in what ever variant you wish to imagine. This is a feat that has to be admired and prized and full kudos has to be awarded to their engineers and driver team who are now pushing their GPU’s on the cards further and further to the extreme. One important note here also is on  how quickly driver bugs in the card with the professional applications has been resolved – so once more with this new aggressive approach have ATI managed to shake off this thorn in their side.

Our opening phrase of a “new red dawn” the old saying goes; A Red Sky at Night a Shepherds Delight; A Red Sky in the Morning a Shepherds Warning! It speaks volumes! We threw down the gauntlet to both ATI and 3D Labs many months ago; sadly we have seen the demise of 3D Labs which is a shame as they had much to offer and some good products. The dominance from NVIDIA’s headquarters, it has now slipped every so slightly, and, the final revision of the ATI FireGL WHQL drivers should see ATI lunging forward and regaining much of that desperately needed market share in the top –end professional arena. The fight is on to pick up those few extra market share points which 3D Labs held. Conversely speaking, we are sure that the drums will be beating from NVIDIA soon banging out a message with their next release of new GPU chips!

Finally, what does the crystal ball have to say – sadly the vertical gain suddenly has got a tad fussy so we cannot accurately predict what is coming – though we have some very, very good ideas! Whatever the scenario and from which camp; it sure is going to be very exciting once more! This year is most certainly going to prove to be the battle of the giants!
