When we compare these to older results
of the NVIDIA Quadro®
FX3700 we do see vast significant marked
improvements. Though the question on
the tongues, so what of todays modern
offerings from Intel and it's infamous
i7, we need to be ever so patient, this
will follow very soon. Todays primary
objective is to get the NVIDIA Quadro®
FX3800 out into the marketplace on a
true workstation mainboard. As covered
in our earlier outing with
Intel's S5520SC mainboard we should
be hearing very soon the announcement
of Intel's X58 Smackover workstation
variant is about to land giving the
S.I.'s et al another optional
performance platform.
Performance, well this card has really
upset the stable with it sheer
performance and if we look very
carefully at results gained within the
benchmarks they almost match the Quadro® FX4800. Deviating every so
slightly, a lot of very fine tuning has
gone into both the card and the drivers
making this professional card a
potential winner and bring back into the
fold those well needed $$$'s to appease
the shareholders and investors.
Therefore kudos should go directly to
the R & D and driver team for building a
sleek beast of this power.
What we ultimately see is a professional
card right up there with its elder
brother the Quadro® FX4800. The Quadro® FX3800 performs no holds barred in
many places with it. SPEC Viewperf 10
results are remarkably fast indeed in
many places with great gains to be seen
from the announced figures within MAX,
CATIA, PRO-E and SolidWorks. The
SolidWorks SPECapc score nearly as fast
as the FX4800, pretty remarkable driver
adjustments overall.
Not to rain on NVIDIA'S day at the
races.
The only exception of the system build
today was that being of the enterprise
SSD's from Intel as normally, until
costs drop a Western Digital
VelociRaptor in most instances will be
the wise choice of host boot disc.
However, with Western Digitals recent
announcement and acquisition of
SiliconSystems, their SSD units and
superb technology, things are bound to
change very rapidly in the forth coming
months. For now its a case of watching
these spaces and lets see what comes
next. This for many is a severe
spanner thrown well into the mix that
will rattle a few cages. Should the
major players be worried, if there is
anything to go by on Western Digitals
current aggressive builds - then yes
they should. Therefore with what we
have seen within this article of
exceptional results it will be a case of
all change. The SSD performance shown
within has without a doubt made a
significant impact in many areas.
What of cost and shipping, firstly we
can cover cost winging in at $1199 US
Dollars this is a very aggressively
priced card. Shipping, products are
now with all good e-tailers and prices
differ in regions, therefore it could be
worth shopping around for those wishing
just to simply upgrade their cards. For
those wishing a complete new system with
the card pre-installed S.I.'s and OEM's
have them within their inventory's.
Its early days to make comments and
predictions on the way ahead, though
what has been observed within today has
been exceptional and all within NVIDIA's
HQ will be singing from the rooftops
today with the champagne flowing (eh
could we hold onto that for a week
please) and will be very pleased with
themselves.
How will the market end users going to
react, this is a very difficult question
as its been some time since a product of
this magnitude and versatility has hit
the streets. However we do
foresee an immediate uptake in some
areas. Some will come
rushing back, others will be a little
cautious for now and see what the next
few months deliver.
Ultimately with the initial impressions
demonstrated; it would appear that the
NVIDIA Quadro® FX3800 is a
resourceful
professional high-end card that competes
in all sectors. Therefore giving the end
users from all walks of life within the
professional graphics industry many
optional upgrades without having to
break the bank. |
