BOXX 3DBOXX 4860 Xtreme

A few weeks back we took a good in depth at Bostonís BOXX 8550 Xtreme the flagship of the BOXX range.  This first article sure did cause a storm at its raw performance in both professional graphicís and the I/O sub system we now turn our heads and look deeply into the Exclusive Competition System where one of our readers can win an esteemed 3DBOXX 4860 system from Escape Studios.    The single CPU workstation is without doubt many system integrators bread and butter builds.  There is a huge demand upon these types of systems and end-users now demand nothing but the best from entry level all the way up to the esteemed high-end performance unit.  Time is money within this cut throat market and todays systems will be alleviating that pressure upon the studio to get the completed project out on time and short cuts cannot be taken as penalties now are very severe.

Predominately over the years they have produced exceptional systems based around Supermicro solutions though in order for Boston to reach further into the more sophisticated marketplaces a major deal manufacturing deal was struck direct with BOXX a US Integrator of some of the most sophisticated overclocked 3D workstations in the world that give the Tier 1 builders a race for their monies.   This lucrative deal therefore means that Boston now fully constructs the systems under licence from BOXX in the UK for direct supply into the UK, Europe and beyond

Showing utter confidence in their systems Bostonís main UK supplier has put into the mix a prize of the BOXX 3DBOXX 4860 Xtreme.   Therefore it made complete sense to sit down and complete a very in-depth article of just what this  4860 Xtreme could and would achieve.  Therefore with the aid of Bostonís public relations department we look at the official line of their description of the BOXX 3DBOXX 4860 Xtreme

3DBOXX 4860 Xtreme Edition is the ideal solution for the most demanding of CG artists who require fast, energy-efficient and reliable workstations. Powered by the revolutionary technology of a six core or quad core performance-enhanced, Intel Core i7 processor (up to 4.15 GHz), the 3DBOXX 4860 Xtreme Edition features the most powerful single processor, 2 GPU workstations ever designed. The 3DBOXX 4860 Xtreme Edition's processor is overclocked and liquid cooled to run at blistering speeds of up to 4.15 GHz for maximum rendering speed and application interactivity. It delivers outstanding support for 3D/2D animation, modeling, visualization and motion media applications, in addition to being the fastest single socket workstations available for 2D compositing.

Tested by BOXXlabs for stability with professional software applications, the 3DBOXX 4860 Xtreme Edition features: Hyperthreading providing up to 12 virtual cores for multitasking with single-threaded applications NVIDIA Quadro FX, GeForce, Tesla or ATI FirePro professional graphics cards 64-bit scalability, extra memory bandwidth and next generation PCI Express 2 Chassis designed for quiet operation in creative environments

1.   Six Core or Quad Core Intel Core i7 Processor
2.   Up to 2 NVIDIA Quadro FX Family, GeForce, NVIDIA Telsa or ATI FirePro
3.   Up to 12 TB Local Storage
4.   32 or 64-bit Microsoft Windows and Linux

The target audience is predominately, VFX Professionals, Digital Content Creation, Post-production Studios and last but by no-means least the Digital Artists

As a further important point of note. BOXX is a recognised hardware vendor under the Autodesk Media & Entertainment certification program. BOXX machines have been tested and certified by Autodesk to run at optimal performance on Autodesk products, including Maya, 3ds Max, MotionBuilder, Mudbox and Softimage.

Therefore we look inside the BOXX 3DBOXX and find the following neatly laid out system. Considering what has been jam packed into a near standard ATX chassis, it is certainly an achievement to behold.

Moving over the page we have a sneak look inside this exceptional system
