We Keep IT Green™

Exclusive Interview with Mr. Charles Liang C.E.O. and Co-Founder of Supermicro

Conclusion

Overall we see the complete package which Supermicro sets out to achieve as the complete solutions provider.   With these strict standard operating procedures in place it is most evident that they will succeed in growing their market share index as a complete solutions provider.

Throughout the tour as we stipulated it was observed the acute attention to detail and complete harmony within the building.  The attention to detail surpassed itself when we noted right at the very end an employee packaging up the units was carefully wiping down even the plastic shipping wrapping to provide the immaculate finished unit.   When complete he carefully and accurately placed the "Made in the U.S.A." sticker on the box with pride.

One point we did note, was the careful recycling of old shipping packaging for future use, whether for internal usage or going back to the recycling plants.  The green image that the company stringently promotes has been well witnessed in all areas that we saw.

On a side note and this is a very pertinent point to many companies out there.  Of a company that boasts a such high quality the question was asked, what of staff turnover as many people might not like the pace at which events can occur.   To our utter astonishment we were to be told that in the last year within this massive sector there had been a nil turnaround in staff.    Simply a magnificent achievement of maintaining staff loyalty with all these simple things that Supermicro put into place to ensure staff harmony.  Not many companies today of this size can boast such an employee record like this.   Oh yes did we forget to tell you, that once a week apart from the meals some early/late birds get, they also get additional rations of fruit and therefore maintaining the wholesome dietary needs of the employee.

Ultimately, it’s easy to see why Supermicro is succeeding so well in today’s economic climate.   Corporate staff which bolster enthusiasm and care to their employees, which is reflective in the workings throughout the company.  Huge time and effort going into research and development ensuring that the product is just right when it goes out the door.    It has to be noted that you do not see many BIOS updates for either mainboard or server board, they are but few.  Once more attention to detail and methodical preparatory work.   On new important product launches, the correct amount of testing and compatibility protocols with as many peripherals as possible.  On Nehalem's launch the Supermicro provided end-users with 39 different mainboards which can be found within 30 different ready made solutions to go out the door.  An astounding feat by any standard.

Finally our sincere thanks to all the corporate and members of staff within Supermicro for the day, especially to Mr. Charles Liang for his valuable time to which we hope some answers to your questions have been delivered .   The day’s hospitality was exceptional showing whenever and wherever possible as much as they could to us.   At all times you are reminded also of their dedication in making their systems as green and as eco friendly as possible but maintaining optimised performance.

So when you finally open that awaited box from Supermicro or one of its distributors - going back to the part of the factory tour were the sticker showed "Made in the U.S.A." , their pride as a company from the very top, right down to the most humble employee backs the label to the hilt.
