Green Diskeeper

Introduction

Less than 3 months ago we produced here a very long comprehensive paper covering Intel’s E8400 Dual Core (3.00GHz) CPU and the energy efficiency of Western Digitals slick new 1TB GP hard discs.   Today, its time to revisit this scenario utilising some of the most modern parts of PC equipment about, not only have we updated the Intel test system.  It also means one can draw a direct comparison in; Performance, Cost, Time to complete the Task, Wattage consumed for each Test and the overall KWH consumption of each sector from either Test System.  Furthermore with the inclusion of Diskeeper fully installed to complete after Windows installation to re-run of all tests.   This is to demonstrate fully and will allow more accurate data presentation of choice and to show how much influence Diskeeper has in saving time, productivity output and the reduction of vital KWH consumption.

From all the factors laid out above this will allow many to choose very carefully their end points.

The factual results obtained previously took many by storm and utter amazement.   A carefully constructed mid range level workstation system could function with very high output, and, most importantly save time and money.  Most significantly; the golden saving of energy with the maintenance of the all imperative productivity output.   We know since this article was published that many S.I.’s and VAR’s have followed a similar route of guidance which we portrayed and in turn passed on the savings to the end user.

With the aid of a simple Plug-in Mains Power & energy monitor which is easily bought of the shelf we put to the test and to show how effective our test systems really are and how much energy reduction can be achieved by simple modification.   Furthermore, we reran the tests to see how much KWH consumption was used over the same period.   Our choice in this part which some of you must be wondering already!   It’s very simple as most people can pop out and purchase this item for less than $60 and it will show an immediate reading of Wattage or KWH consumption.

Instant results of this nature the need for expensive parts to monitor this sort of test is really fruitless to obtain simple the simple goal.   It means too that the average SoHo user can achieve similar results and take into consideration what they wish to do to help in their part in lowering carbon footprints.   We can assure you that some major corporations utilise a product of this nature to gain instant and factual results to present to companies if the question is asked!

The first and most important point we had to look at was the actual ambient room temperature which may be found within offices.   After a few calls and visits to some major international companies offices, found out that their average office temperatures was to be within the region of 20 – 25C.   This baseline figure gives us a starting point at which we had to aim our own facilities at and decided upon an ambient room temperature of 22.5C.   With the aid of 4 thermal diodes strategically positioned about the rooms to closely monitor at all times the ambient room temperature.

Utilising the format and protocols of previous papers and articles, the ultimate the main focus of this paper is actual cost savings which Diskeeper can afford to all end users.

To hit home hard the true point of Diskeepers performance it has been completed fully as much as possible with screenshots, charts and graph’s directly correlated from the data obtained within.  This is where the unequivocal evidentiary points are to be found.
