EXCLUSIVE - DISKEEPER 2008
The time scale in which we had to prepare all was extremely short notice indeed and to cover as much as possible we put together a system that may normally be found in an entry level workstation or a SoHo user's main working system in the professional 32 bit arena.
System Configuration

1 X AMD 6000+ (3.0GHz)
1 X Akasa REVO Heatsink Fan Cooler
1 X MSI K9N Diamond Mainboard
1 X ATI FireGL V3600 Professional Graphic's Card
2 X 1024MB DDR2 8500 Corsair XMS2 Dominator Memory Modules
2 X 320GB Western Digital SATA Drives (3 Gb/s) Configured into Raid 0
1 X Akasa Amber 120mm Intake Fan
1 X Akasa Amber 120mm Exhaust Fan
1 X Akasa Mirage 62 Chassis
1 X Akasa POWERPLUS 650W VERSION 2 PSU

Hardware Suppliers for the Review

MSI for the supply of the Mainboards shown, Corsair, for the supply of their Dominator memory, Western Digital for the SATA Hard Discs, AMD for the supply of the FireGL V3600 professional graphics card.   Finally but by no means least; Akasa for a majority peripherals required for this stimulating review. Our thanks to all involved in making this an interesting but exciting review.

With the support and help of all the companies involved this has been a cracking additional look a AMD’s new FireGL card.   It gives you the reader a choice on upgrade paths that many of you look for here with the performance ratio’s each system has to provide.

Systems Integrators, OEM’s and VAR’s should contact all companies directly for pricing and availability of all components. Members of the public should contact their respective suppliers requesting the parts directly.

Diskeeper can be purchased from most leading Distributors and software retail outlets. Or those of you wishing a try before buy, a 30 day trial version maybe downloaded direct from Diskeeper Europe. We highly recommend the use of this software as performance increase can be quite considerable in many places.

Software & Benchmarks Utilised

Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP2
HD Tach Version 3.0.4.0 Journalists Edition
A mixed combination of some 10GBs software and benchmarks - for those who are aware; fragment the hard drive into a complete and utter mess once all of the above is installed.   Each set of tests were completed on a fresh installation of all the above software, each time we low level formatted the hard drives to clear the MBR’s etc.   Therefore the time to complete each set of results has been substantial as results are triple checked  to ensure that no anomalies are seen.  This combination mix of benchmarks and software would therefore ensure that the whole system I/O was fully stretched to its limits and ensure that the new software from Diskeeper would function as its fullest workload capacity.
The plethora of benchmarks available in this arena; one could spend all day in producing results if the time permitted, paralysis by analysis to coin the phrase!    Where it has been possible we have shown the increase that may be gained from an unfragmented drive to 2007 and finally a difference between 2008 and 2007.    The aim today is to show what the professional studio / SoHo user can truly achieve with the aid of this simple efficient; but effect piece of software.
With these facts collated we now move onwards to the all important benchmarks and results you have been looking for!
