Intel® Core™ i7-980X Processor Extreme Edition

3DMark Vantage Multi-Media Test

We very quickly slammed on the brakes here and did a swift change around in our current test system.   Out went the OCZ Vertex to be replaced with a standard Western Digital 250GB Caviar Blue drive supporting Microsoft Windows 7 Professional.  The Graphic's card replaced by 2 X Sapphire 4870 Toxic cards configured into Crossfire Mode.  Everything remained at stock level and we see the following result, which is very respectable indeed.  Once the 3DMark Vantage had completed it's run, out went all of the above peripherals and the system was returned to it's original state.

With the Drive C tests completed, we moved onwards to see how the system coped next with Intel's new 6GB/s Intel RS2BL080 PCI Express Raid  card.  In previous articles we have stipulated the requirement for choice.  Therefore a choice you will see today.  Time was against us so we have put together the fundamental baseline results required to give you an idea of what to expect from using this raid configuration as an optional choice.
