Getting down to the basics of this all.  As many will recall on our exclusive interview with Charles Liang we uncovered the fundamental core operations within Supermicro, especially on customers preconfigured systems.   Therefore our request went in for a baseline storage unit.  A dual CPU Harpertown configuration of no more than 2.0GHz, 4GB of memory (2GB per CPU), followed with complete fixtures and fittings for future upgrades paths. Last but not least 12TB of hard drive storage.   Seek no further as the unit supplied for test only came in at a US Dollar Price - $7,542 (Please check with your supplier for the current pricing structure) .   Not a bad price at all.  The open-e software which is a massive package is comes preconfigured,  as too the raid array which was set to Raid 6 for us to give this Goliath a thorough testing.   As noted from before ask precisely and correctly and you will receive exactly what you have requested.  Though if in doubt of your needs then the designated account manager from Supermicro will carefully help you plan out your requirements for now and what can be done for the future.  Its all part of their exceptional service.

Looking carefully into the unit we see masses of room for upgrade paths which is a huge bonus to the small business users that can only buy so much equipment at any one time.
It does not stop there as it can be offered in the form of RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 through the Supermicro hardware RAID controller with battery back up giving a volume array of greater than 2TB

For peace of mind the storage solutions are covered by three years advanced replacement warranty. The 2U is bundled with redundant PSU (1+1) as standard. Further, redundancy can also be offered.   Once more the end-user wins out at the superb package Supermicro offer.

Remote Management with KVM-Over-LAN is provided as standard on all storage nodes using Supermicro’s intelligent management module that monitors onboard instruments such as temperature sensors, power status, voltage and fan speeds. It also includes remote access to the BIOS configuration and operating system that is CPU independent.

Connectivity is simple through Dual Gigabit LAN, making it easy to plug into an existing network. Packed with highly efficient power supplies and energy efficient components it saves money by reducing energy costs for an organisation as storage needs grow.

Maintaining Supermicro’s "green" stance we see the unit readily packed with 12TB of Western Digital Green RE2 Enterprise drives.   However we can push this all the way to a complete 24TB of green storage utilising the new RE4 Drives from Western Digital .
