ATI FirePro™ V8750 3D Workstation Graphics Accelerator

Conclusions

The ATI FirePro V8750, the performance shown today has been well worth its wait.   The results shown within have been extra-ordinary to say the least.  This card most certainly has overtaken its predecessor in many ways, faster memory, the aid of 800 unified shaders - this will help many in complex drawings.  Life in the professional graphics card market has just shifted up directly to top gear.  Today's outing has been the tip of the iceberg.   The new FirePro V8750 graphics card has brought something else now to the fore for the professional high-end users.  Faster memory, bigger memory bandwidth, lower in power consumption, overall true value for money.   When enabled into CrossFire Pro Technology we see a huge of 4GB's worth of frame buffer to play with.  Therefore the good cash conscious end users and studios the like will be making some very hard and fast decisions now.  It most certainly does not take a Berkley mathematician to complete these simplistic calculations.

Today will have most certainly caught many analysts fully by surprise with not only one major announcement from ATI but two ground breaking events.  A huge amount of organisation had went into both sets of technologies being ready on the one given day.  Therefore ATI's marketing department has to be most pleased with themselves.

One point of note that has to be seriously considered by all, the important SPEC Viewperf 10 results are in 64-bit mode and not the vogue 32 bit that normally sees higher results.  The 64-bit results we have witnessed are as fast if not faster in some areas than actual 32 bit mode.  We should by now be seeing submissions that cover 64 bit as many end-users do utilise this operating system, therefore it makes sense for submissions now to be of this mode.  It goes once more to show how much thought and effort has gone into making this a sound flexible and most importantly very robust driver.  Therefore to quickly recap on the SPEC results and to gauge the scaling we see below;

Availably of the card.  On going to print we have been advised to get your orders in quick as there is expected to be a huge rush on these cards - especially at the snippet of a price they are on offer for.   We would advise you touch base quickly with your supplier for up to date pricing and approximate eta's of when the beasties come into stock.

ATI have really worked very hard this last year to gain back market share.   Not only are the cards considerably cheaper than the competitors, but volume is being picked up by Tier 1, S.I.'s and VAR's.   In our earlier exclusive article on CrossFire Pro Technology today we have fully uncovered the point of choice.  Choice for what card we can use in CrossFire Pro Mode and most importantly a choice of platform.   Once more we see another stock Intel based platform from Supermicro set-up CrossFire Pro Mode and instantaneously have an extremely powerful system.  Many, many Tier 2's and other vendors must be rubbing their hands with glee at the endless solutions they can put together giving you the end user a massive choice.

The driver used within, is nearing it's final validation with some final tweaks before gaining WHQL certification.  Raw it might be, but nevertheless has proven its power within.  Kudos once more must go to both engineering and driver teams within.

How will the market end users going to react, this is a very difficult question as its been some time since a product of this magnitude and versatility has hit the streets.   However we do foresee an
instantaneous uptake in some areas that will encompass the immediate benefit for those key applications.   In a previous articles we have stipulated, fast is good we want fast.

Oh so very fast is what we most certainly have here today.  Roll over the V8700 the V8750 is King of the Hill.

Though the cry of - but the cost, once more if you wish bleeding edge technology of this magnitude then we do have to pay - though once more to reiterate - fast is what we certainly have here today.    Therefore cost is most certainly not a factor anyone would care to consider in gaining the huge bound in technology and performance output.  What you have witnessed here today, the technology leap ATI has delivered has been breathtaking.
